HDD Question

Hi, I have an older WD 500GB HDD that I was considering using for storage. Problem is I got the HDD from a friend who said his old build had many BSOD's and they may have been caused by this very HDD or faulty nVidia drivers (not sure how he decided this). If the BSOD's were, in fact, caused this drive, would I have a way to find out without harming my system?

There are several disk checking utilities out their. Just plug taht HD in your system and check it out before doing anything else with it.
