So, I recently acquired a very old compaq from my brother and I want to do something with it but I'm not sure what, i need ideas. It has a Amd Athlon XP 1800+ 1.53ghz cpu in it, 600mb of ram, 40gb HDD, and an empty AGP 4x slot. I would really like to overclock it but with its locked bios, not gonna happen. So you guys got any ideas on what I can do with this thing?

Should be good enough to run some emulators paired with a controller or two. File server, also folding or some other distributed computing program. You could make a fun case for it.

Does it have a motherboard video chip?
Load up some Linux OS and learn how to setup a webserver and other open source goodness?

It has integrated intel graphics. Dont really have much use for a webserver. Never tried Linux though....

i usually clean them up and give them to old relatives and collage students

Use it as a super router with m0n0wall or use it as NAS with FreeNAS.

I think im gonna make it a emulator box for N64 and SNES emulators. My buddy's crappy Celeron D can run N64 emus pretty good so this should do decent, not gonna be able to do any PCSX2 or anything though.
