Ok, so here's the problem. I have a computer lab with roughly 40 hp Pro 3000 MT workstations, part # NV567UT#ABA.

Five of them have started trying to pxe boot after going to sleep. They work fine on start up, but when the computer goes into sleep mode, they then attempt to pxe boot. then it proceeds to tell me to insert a proper boot media and press any key, so I have to restart. One of them, on occasion, will tell me on startup that it's S.M.A.R.T. Status is Capable and Status Bad. That one will ask to insert proper boot disk on start up...occasionally. I called HP support, and they had me run the Bios HDD self tests on all five, and they all five came back ok. Are those tests accurate? I'm hoping it's not all hard drives, but it's got me wondering. Because they are so random. Sometimes they'll work for days, and some times they'll do it multiple times in a day.

I am open to any ideas.

Thanks

Do you use PXE boot for imaging or anything else? I would disable PXE boot via the BIOS and see if that fixes the problem.

We have never run pxe booting in any of our labs, but I went ahead and disabled the option on booting, and moved pxe booting to the very bottom of the boot priority list. Still having the issue though.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that the hard disks are actually turning off when it goes to sleep. I believe PXE boot is run before the OS so in order to be getting a PXE boot screen it must mean you are basically restarting the PC. Are you sure you aren't hitting a function key or shortcut when waking them from sleep?

Also, in BIOS make sure you don't have the Ethernet adapter to "on with PXE" and just "on"

Easy test for drives. If these are all the same PC models, swap the drives with a set of 5 other computers that are working fine. If the issue follows the drives, you have your answer.
