i just got an hd 5850 today because of constant lag from my gtx 260. I put the card in and tried to play some games and noticed it was more jumpy. The frames on far cry 2 are always above 35 on ultra but it is so jumpy that it is far away from playable. I cant play crysis at all because it jumps but the frame rate is amazing.

windows vista ultimate 64bit
amd phenom II x4 920
4gb ddr2 1066
sapphire hd 5850
biostar 790gxb a2+
bfg 550wpsu
250gb hitachi hdd
19in monitor at 1440-900 Games cant play at this resolution with a hd 5850, i dont understand.

I want to know what the cause of the jumpyness is because i have replaced so many parts and still cant figure out what it is.

You should check to see if you completely removed the drivers for the GTX260 and reinstall the ones for the HD Radeon 5850.

If that doesn't work, you may need to reinstall your OS.
If even that doesn't remedy your problems, you should check to see if each of your components are undamaged, one by one.

i cant even explain how many times i have replaced my operating system. I used driver sweeper to clean all the drivers from my gtx 260 but i also noticed the jumping with the gtx 260 and thats why i bought the 5850, could it still be a driver issue?

I had also tried to overclock my cpu a few times and failed, it would be very jumpy in games as i had noticed before but it was worse. could i have done something that caused my cpu to fry or slow down? My phyiscal memory usage is at 97% sometimes! what does that mean.

If your Memory usage is at 97% with 4GB then most likely you have a memory leak or a program thats eating memory.

You do have Vista 64 and if anything I would suggest checking for updates or if possible, go to Windows 7 64.

Also, make sure you have the latest patches for the games you are playing. I know Crysis out of the box had a very bad memory leak and would eat up all the memory it could find.

either one, get more memory, or two figure what is cause insane memory usage (PS make sure the game is patched)

High memory useage makes me think of malware running on your pc.

Have you used msconfig to see what programs are running on start up ? some AV software can use a lot of memory and CPU time.

Task manager should give you some insight into what memory and CPU time ie being used by individual programs.

as a last resort.... make sure the PSU is working properly.

i just reinstalled vista and all my games are patch correctly. i also bought 3dmark vantage and got a score of p9000? really, that low, my cpu is slow and my games are slow and choppy. i tried playing fallout 3 and it played flawless but everytime i looked in a certain direction, my frames would go down the crapper. Why are the scores so low for 3dmark?

Try running a memtest86. Is your CPU scoring lower than it should in 3dmark?

well i think 9000 for a cpu is pretty low, i think before it was at 34,000. I think. Ok what i dont understand is why all the benchmarks show games running at 2560-1600 with an average of 50 frames per second but mine averages 30 at 1440-900(world in conflict) all the benchmarks show there 5850 10 times better than mine.
