Anyone jumping on this wagon? I know the games wont be out for it until Xmas but I was wondering who here will pick one of these up when they are announced in a few weeks. I have a 1Gb 4870 and all my games play just fine max settings 1920 x 1200. I like to keep my system current and upgraded as I can afford it once a year or so. Who will be upgrading to these and from what.
I have no intention of buying any of them, but I can't wait to see the reviews.

I don't plan to upgrade my current rig. It's more then enough and should hold solid for 2 more years.
I just bought a 4870, so no upgrades for me for a while. I would like to, but I'm pretty sure that they would be far out of my budget.
Not me either.I have a 9800Gt and I m very happy with its performance.
Maybe I skip dx11 cards....
Maybe I will skip i7..........
I WILL!!!!
I just have to wait until there is a version with non-reference cooler since I prefer the non-reference cooler than the reference cooler.
I will if you agree to stop posting those god damn pictures in your posts.
I probably will. I don't game much anymore. I'm still using a X1900XT in my system.
I'm just looking for a decent performer I'm not looking to spend over too much; $150 - $200. It probably means I'll be getting a HD48xx series though.
Depends on the price. At any rate should drop down the prices for the GTX260 and higher.

i really dont see a need to upgarde... like really... no need lol... so i guess i'll wait... LRB though is another story, but that still depends on the price and performance.
I'll wait until Boxing day, because...
it's a few months after release so the price will come down to about £160, and then you get the after Christmas deals which should get a few £'s off.
I wont be buying them at release, unless the prices are reasonable (HAH)
Very few people will be buying them at release unless we get another 8800GTX. That card was the SH*T when it was released
If the performance is 80%-100% greater then currant cards then I will replace my 8800GT that's slowly dying of artifices however if their only 20%-40% then I'll have to give it some thought and see how the pricing is at release.
I'm going to pick one up, look at it, then set it right back down until the reviews and probably second generation cards come out.
I am buying the 5XXX series because I am building a new rig from the ground up but I am not buying at release. I will wait till around Christmas time when the price as dropped at least $100 or so.
I will likely get a Vapor-X 4890 after release becuase prices should drop on that and I am building my girlfriend a rig so when I get the 5XXX she will get the 4890.
i might upgrade , still thinking about it.
I wll most likely upgrade my hd2900xt ,I was thinking at first to crossfire 4890's but after some 'looking around' I found that my ip-35pro mobo will likely bottleneck ,so maybe a 5870x4 or x2 would be nice for my taste
I think I'll wait until there are reviews, drivers stabilize, and I finally have a retail copy of Win 7... It would help to have a game that i like that uses it...
Nah... It just got put into the 'too hard' basket.
i think i will.my 8500gt just died so it might be a good reason to buy something much better.
Rumors still running strong on great perf from these cards
When will the ATI integrated graphics chips with DX11 be available on motherboards?
Not me. For one, prices will drop like a stone after a few months, nothing out there needs that much GPU horsepower, and nothing of any significance will be using DX11.
I also note: I've yet to see a single comparision of a game rendered in DX11 vs a lower DX version, or any videos of tesselation running at >30FPS...
I'll pass.

It wont play nice on xp, itll be slower, so thats a good reason right there, I mean, who wants much more power?

Crysis 2 uses DX11
BF:BC2 uses DX11
Dirt 2 uses DX11
Grid 2 uses DX11
xp cant even do DX10
^ without mods.
Thing is, if a few new games stress this gen early on, and theyre killer games, xp is dead
xp wont run as fast, wont have the extra oomph, and not only for gpus, as itll soon be seen losing in MT apps as well
DX11 games arent the only reason to get 1 of these cards
DX compute and a few other things on a newer OS will be nice to have

No it, can't. Nothing can get it to run dx10. If you are referring to crysis that still isn't running dx10.
I will likely pick one up if one is less than $250 and beats the GTX 285 by a decent amount. If not then I will wait. I would like to get some nice DX11 in my rig and downsize a bit because college is looming and 3 4890s was always ridiculous.
I warned you soldier for every unrelated picture of your rig you add I will add 3 cute pictures!
If the performance is substantially better than a GTX275 and the price isn't - maybe.
I'll wait for some benchmarks first. If they BLOW away the 4890, then I will consider upgrading.

Sorry, but Crysis used DX10, and I STILL can't tell the difference. Let me see side by side video, then we talk. And lets face it, no one cares about Dirt2/Grid2, and BC2 probably will be canned for the PC, just like the first one was.
And I point out: I'm not convinced DX11 will take off, due to reasons I've long explained. If I get a DX11 capable card, it will be for performance, not for anything else. And for the time being, I see no reason to upgrade from a 4890, thanks.

helloworld said Crysis2; not Crysis.
At any rate, not much difference between DX9 vs DX10 games. There should be a pretty noticeable difference between DX9/10 vs DX11.

I think a lot of people say that 11 won't take off or will fail because 10 didn't last long or see many games and 10.1 barely got any.
Keep in mind 10 didn't get many because devs knew Vista sucked at first and as time went on more and more games came out. 10.1 got nothing simply because of 2 reasons. 1) everyone already knew DX11 was coming out so there was no point wasting time and money on DX10.1 and 2) only ATI customers were able to play meaning only part of your market was. We will see more DX11 games come out.
Vista never sucked, sheep sucked.

That was my point; Crysis and a few other games used DX10, to little to no effect. Thats the point.
One month till release of DX11 cards, and I've yet to see a single comparision, screenshot, video, or otherwise, that compares DX11 to DX10/9. Heck, I've yet to see a DX11 video, with Tesselation running, at a higher then 30 FPS!
Show me noticable improvement at steady FPS, and then show me devs jumping on board, then we talk. Until then, I see no reason to upgrade.

The same could have been said with any dx release. By your reasoning games never really used dx8 or 9 as they were never used to their full extent.
I'm more exited about 40nm tech than Dx11. I don't expect many 40mn DX10 cards, so yes, I will probably buy a dx11 card as soon as they're out. If AMD or nVidia maintain the tradition, they will probably launch a ultra high end and a high end card (eg. geforce 8800 gtx and gts, geforce 7800 gtx and 7800gt, etc.) , with the mainstream following in 3-4 months. I will definetly go for the non-ultra high end.
If i'm not wrong this is the first time a new DX version coincides with a major transistor size reduction, which is great for an upgrade.

What games do you play? Can you give us a list?
I have two 4850's in crossfire at a lower resolution (1920 x 1080) and can rarely ever play on max settings.
| nitros85 wrote : What games do you play? Can you give us a list?

Short of crysis there should not be any games that you can't play nearly maxed at that resolution.. Keep in mind that when most people say max settings they are not talking about somethnig as rediculous as 32x AA or some such.
Anyway.. as for Dx11.. I do not expect it to be picked up exactly quickly from devs.. It will take a while, as such I have no reason to upgrade right away, not until I need more performance. I don't imagine I will piece wise upgrade this rig anyway.. Though as soon as a game comes out that I want to play that even so much as slightly supports even one dx11 feature.. I will probably upgrade to whatever is around at that point in time..

THAT is the hard part.

Lot of people are over exaggerated, so don’t take in to account every thing that every one says.

I've got the same gfx setup as you and I'm running at 1920x1200 with an extreme gfx mod, including a ToD mod, and I get 30fps MINIMUM in Crysis with 2xAA.
I want at least 4890 performance that draws less power than a 4850 for less than $200, so yeah I'll wait till they come down in price a bit.
^ well the 57xx looks like it will come close to what you're asking for.
the 5850 will probably be a power hog since it's just a slightly downclocked 5870.

Something tells me ATi and nVidia still don't truely care about efficiency all that much. You might be waiting awhile
FYI, the 4890 is more efficient than the 4870 and 4850, so if you under volted one, you might be able to get to around the same power usage. Or wait for a die shrink.

Heres a few places you can see a DX11 games running faster than 30fps on DX11 HW
Just in case anyones found it hard to find, I could add more languages, but hey, I did include twitter heheh
Cod world at war, world in conflict, fear 2, gta4, far cry 2, Americas Army all at 1920 x 1200 all high with 4x aa and 8 x af. No issues no exageration. Glad to see so much input on my question. I wanted to see what people were planning for the coming os and hardware. I think next year will be the best year yet for pc gaming. Thanks for all the replies I know some of you hate me posting rig shots.
I most likely will upgrade from a 3870. As I know I will be getting win7, I might as well drop in a 5870 if it hits the 4890 down for the count performance wise.
If the 5870 price is around $250, it will be tempting.
I'll stick with my 4870x2 quadfire rig for now
I might replace them next summer or so, but definitely not any sooner than that. They absolutely rip through any game on the market (including crysis), so I really don't see any reason to upgrade.
