So a friend of mine is building a rig that I am trying to help him with. He traded in his case for a monstrous lian-li fulltower and ordered two new HD 4850's. What he wants to do it crossfire the two 4850's and use his old graphics card HD3870 for Physx. Does anyone foresee any issues with that? Also we were not entirely sure of the best way to go about doing it. Do you crossfire the two 4850's with one bridge and then the 3870 and a 4850 with the other bridge? How does it work?

thats what I thought about physx, but my friend seems to think there is some opensource software that allows it, so say we either get the software or a new nvidia card, how do you set up the trifire?

Nivida put a stop to that a few weeks ago. They made it so that physx won't run if there is any other brand of card(s) other then Nvidia installed. You might be able to use older drivers but I am not sure about that.

Your best bet is to simply forget physx unless you want to go all the way Nvidia.
