I purchased one of those Shuttle micro ATX boxes for my mom. She only does facebook, and occasional MS Word. Everything will be going fine and then windows locks up. On re-boot the HD doesn't show in BIOS. It is a single WD Cavier Green 500GB. When you re-boot again the HD shows up, Windows XP loads and machine runs fine for awhile. Then after time, it's like the HD shuts off and windows crashes again. Re-boot a couple times and the HD shows up again and Windows loads fine.
Is it the Shuttle box, bad power cable, bad SATA cable, over-heating? There is no video card and a single stick of 2GB of RAM.
This is the 2nd HD of the same make/model i've installed. The first one died totally, wouldn't even complete a full format during Windows XP installation.
I guess the cheapest thing to try first is to swap out the SATA cable for a new one?
Let me know if I can provide anymore information, and thanks in advance to Tom's experts.
