can only boot in safe mode xp sp3 and display shows small vertical lines. sometimes tacks several attempts just to acheve boot at all /keep hitting reset.

How old is the video card - Might have too much dust on it, remove clean, reseat and try again.

If cleaning it doesn't help, it sounds like the memory on the video card may have gone bad.
