More about first timer gaming build including monitor
  1. Just so your aware, the socket that you've selected is at the end of it's life, meaning it's a dead end in terms of upgrading... Anyways, some recommendations: get the 1gb version of the 4870, get a 640gb WD Black, and get a SATA DVD burner.

  2. Theq8400 is not a great choice for gaming , and like all other socket 775 processors its being discontnued
the 4870 might cost $200 but its still a 4870 and you can get a 4890 for that price

    Antec Nine Hundred + EA650 $160

    Seagate 500 gig $60

    more powerful gpu
    cheaper

But you can save another $50+ if you switch to a cheaper but just as good antec 300 case and a mb with a single gfx card slot

EDIT: I forgot the DVD burner ,so its the same price now .
  3. If you added your monitor to this build you'd be right around your budget including the OS.
