Some component questions on a PII 955 build

I am building a Phenom II X4 955/965(since I have to wait until I get my next paycheck to complete the build, we'll see if its out by then) rig, and I had two questions:

1. Which RAM would be better for my build: DDR3 1333 CL7 or DDR3 1600 CL8? The price difference is only $5 so i consider it to be negligible, and the 1600 definitely wins in the looks department in my book.

2. What HSF should I buy for the best temps, but also a readonable price? I was planning on going with the Xig Dark Knight, but if you guys have experience with a cooler that cools better for around the same price, I'd like to hear about it.

Oh yeah, the other internal specs for my build are/will be:

Asus Crosshair III Formula
Phenom II X4 955
XFX HD 4890 XXX
WD Caviar Black 750GB

CL7 is better, which ones are you looking at as there are a couple of CL7 1600MHz ram kits available on newegg for the same price as 1333MHz ram.

Get the core contact freezer, it is currently rated quite high on frosty tech.

Go for ocz flex 1600 MHz cas 7 ram. Also my personal favorite coer is the sunbeam core contact.

One thing that I noticed when building at 955 build a couple of months ago was that the Xigmatek cooler can possibly block one of the first RAM slots if you get RAM with a large heat spreader. It may only be an issue with the motherboard that I bought (Gigabyte 790FX), but I figure it's worth mentioning.

Hey meatwad nice build it's pretty much identical to mine my order is being delivered today I am so excited will be my first time!!...

As for best CPU cooler for your buck I did a lot of research and you should try this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I went with this G.Skill RAM as it got pretty good reviews all around on Newegg and was the cheapest

Also I do not remember which review I read about the Crosshair III but I remember them saying the RAM they used had that design on top of it like the RAM you linked and it interfered with something so they suggested RAM that did not have extra height to it.

Get the CL7, the difference between timings is more than the difference in performance from the speed. You shouldnt need all 4 dimm slots, my asus m4a79t board suggested putting the ram in the slots farther away from the cpu for better OCing which means you will likely block slots you dont need to use anyway.

I know it's a little pricey, but what do you guys think of a Thor's Hammer in push/pull with two Scythe Ultra Kaze's?

@mattbu
Thats what I was worried about, I was not sure which coolers don't block the DIMM slots on AM3 mobos. Does anyone know if the Xig Dark Knight, Scythe Mugen 2, or Sunbeam CCF will fit without blocking my DIMM slots?

In my build I used the Xigmatek SB1283 cooler with 8GB of some sort of normal looking Corsair RAM. This isn't the exact RAM I used, but the size and design is similar: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... I was able to use all slots, but the clearance on the first and maybe the second was cutting it pretty close so taller RAM (like the two you're looking at) might not fit. I wasn't able to orient the SB1283 in a way that it wouldn't be blocking the DIMM, but it may be possible with the others.

And seeing as they just bumped the Trident price up to $95, I'll be going with the 1333mhz CL7, and I think I will be ordering a Thor's Hammer.

Heya Hunter. Do you know for certain if the Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler W/TX-2 will fit on my AMD Phenom II 965 AM3 Socket? On all of the website it only shows compatibility up to AM2, but I'm hoping the websites are just behind in the times 8)
