I am attempting to do a Repair of the corrupted Registry on my sons laptop. He has a Dell Latitude D800 laptop with Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. I am in the Recovery Console. I am at the beginning of the repair and have copied system.bak, software.bak, sam.bak and security.bak. I am now trying to copy default.bak and it is telling me the file cannot be copied. I tried typing in dir c:\windows\system32\config\default to see if the file did exist and this popped up

the volume in drive C has no label
the volume serial number is 9cce-3097
directory of c:\windows\system32\config\default
01/10/12 01:28p -a------262144 default
1file(s) 262144 bytes
21455441920 bytes free

Does anyone have any idea why exactly the file won't copy and how I would go about fixing this so I can continue with the registry repair? Thanks in advance

I would also like to add that the Registry is so corrupted that it won't let me go into Windows even in safe mode so I don't have the option of going into Windows at the moment and doing a system restore or anything like that. I only have the option of going to the recovery console with the Windows XP disk I have.
