I am having a problem getting my 802.11b network to transfer at full rate.
I have a home network with two PCs running XP and a Netgear 802.11b wireless
router. One PC is connected through the ethernet and the other through the
wifi.

I tried to do a file transfer from the wired PC to the Wifi PC that was very
long (>30 min). The icon on my system tray showed that the network set up
at 11M and stayed that way. But when I checked the utilization of the
wireless link in Task Manager, it showed a utilization of only 50% with
occasional short spurts of 100%.

DOes anyone know how I can figure out what the problem is? I want to get
the link up to full 11M.

Is there any issue of using WEP/128 bit encryption? Will that slow the
transfer down? Is there anything else that might slow the transfer down?
Thanks

Steve

Don't forget either that speed decreases rapidly with distance.
