Hey all,

I was doing some casual reading up on Intel's up and coming Gulftown (i9 evidently) and happened to come upon this:

http://www.madshrimps.be/vbulletin [...] ble-66343/

I don't have a new "i" series CPU, but from what I have seen, most can crank an i7 up around 1Ghz or so over stock and find stability. But 2.4Ghz to 6Ghz+ seems unreal, especially for a 6 core CPU.

I was just curious if anyone "in the know" thinks this is complete BS or just maybe this CPU maybe the real thing when it comes, especially the unlocked variety?

Desktop: Q9400(stock,lapped,SpinTechQ)/Intel DP43TF/VTEK 4850(512)/8GB DDR2 800Mhz/X-Fi Titanium Pro/Liteon BD-ROM/Velociraptor/Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Laptop: Toshiba Satellite (M305)/T6400/4GB DDR2 800Mhz/Windows 7 RC 64-bit (for now)
^As he said if the CPU is very well cooled and the other components are of high quality then what barrier can thier be? Plus we have all seen what a major jump there was in overclocking ability from intels last generation CPUs Core2duos and quads to newer CPU's like the "i" series.
Plus what could have happened is that the person overclocks it like crazy takes a screenshot of the benchmark and then takes it back to stock so it doesn't have to be stable for over lets say..a minute :)

On the right cooling suicide runs are nothing new, but if this can be run at that speed on less exotic cooling though that's a different matter.

That's not really surprising, since it's at 1.9 volts (and probably on liquid nitrogen).

1.9v, ln2 4 sure, 32nm rocks

I saw the 1.9 volts and thought the same thing, but then cpuz might not be reporting it correctly since it is an es chip.

Why wouldn't it be capable of 6ghz when Phenom II has been capable of 7ghz for the past 6 months?

i dont doubt the clockspeed, i doubt the volts

I dont think it will go to 6ghz without those kind of voltages. The Phenom II's need 1.8-1.9v to reach 7ghz I believe.

Yeah but HkMg is different than SOI, it doesnt require the voltages for such high clockspeeds
