Hi, I am building a new rig with Vertex 3 120GB as boot drive, and 3 WD RE4 250GB in raid 0 with ASRock Z68 extreme4 motherboard. My 1st question is: Do I install Windows 7 x64 on the Vertex 3 first, then add the WD hdd and set the drives to Raid or do I hook up all the drives at the same time? My second question is about the SSD caching on the z68 chipset. I'm thinking of using 30GB of the 120GB as ssd cache for the raid. Is that a good way to go or can that even be done? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
ASRock Z68 Extreme4
16GB G.SKILL DDR3-1600
MSI R6950 Twin Frozer III
Lite-on Blu Ray burner with 3D capabilities
Antec TruePower Trio 650 Watts
OCZ Vertex 3 Max IOPS 120GB
WD RE4 250GB 64MB cache X3 in Raid0

1st I think the best method would be to attach all 4 hard drives at the same time and use the BIOS to create the RAID array. Then install Windows to the SSD. But I don't think it really matters much either way. As far as the cache, why were you planning on doing that? Are you thinking the 120 gb isn't enough so you want to have quicker access to the stuff on your HDD, or the SSD is too much for your frequently used program, so you would rather use that space as cache rather than waste it?
1st, thanks for your response mgrzTX. The reason why I'd want to cache the Raid0 is because i plan on putting all my games and music there since ssd cache improves read speed while it doesn't improve the write speed much. I often convert Bluray Movies and TV shows to play on our Android phones since my wife and I travel a lot. Those tasks will be done on the SSD drive.
