I have my headphones with mic plugged in the mic jack. I hear fine and people can hear me fine on SKYPE, but I also have all the sound coming out of the external speakers. How can I turn off the speakers so that I can just use my headset. Dell Dimension C521 - Win XP. Thanks.

Are these your speakers? They do have a volume control.

Some audio cards, like the Auzentech X-Fi Forte, can automatically disable the speaker output when you plug in a set of headphones.

If your hardware is SHARING the same audio output for both speakers and headphones you must have speakers with an OFF switch.

Personally, I'd invest in better speakers. One of the best stereo speakers for the money is the M-Audio AV30.

Gees, duh, I meant internal speakers. All I have are the speakers coming out of the monitor.
