I have a crap load of used pc's I came into I want some insight on what my best case scenario would be for it. socket 939 mobos, socket 478 mobos, pentium 4 ht's, hard drives and plenty of memory. I can go get a grafix card PCI-e no issue. I am an eperiencedn overclocker so any cpu limitations I can handle. what should I use If I want a little something to take me into next summer for a few games and video/audio editing thanx. (no I will not send you any parts no matter what)

Go with the 939 as it is the newest socket of the ones you have and will give you a good start point especially if you have a dual core cpu for it.Goodluck.

939 socket out of those 3 mention for sure. It's hard to say what else you should grab considering you haven't really mentioned anything else. :)

939 socket is still 'decent', at least for gaming.

Best case scenario... you find a 939 socket mobo with a 4400+ CPU or greater still on it. A case with a PSU that won't go out and take your parts with it. 2GB of ram (4x512MB DDR-400). A little hard drive or 10. :) And the graphics card you'll want (if you are purchasing) is like a 4850. Anything higher will probably be bottlenecked by the CPU.

------------------------------ Intel Q9550 @ 3.6Ghz 1.23v / Abit Quad GT IX38 CrossFire / 4870 1GB /
2x2GB Gskill DDR2-1066 / WD Black 640GB / Rosewill 630w

Actually, most cards will be bottlenecked, and 4850 would definitely be.

a p4 ht couldn't do i with an overclock? I've seen p4s do gaming on 9800gt before, 939 cpus I'm not sure what processors would be the best.

I know in some games, L4D being one of them, a 4670 and 4850 get almost identical fps when paired with an Athlon X2 5000. Even that game become cpu limited on an old Athlon X2.
