I am running a Phenom II 940 BE at stock speeds (3.0ghz)
IGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P
4gb Gskill 1066 DDR2 ram @800mhz
nVidia 7950gx2 video card
Antec Truepower Trio PSU 650w
Antec VSK-2000 Case with two 120mm fans on front blowing air in/ one 120mm fan blowing air out
When I have the AMD coolnquiet deal enabled it keeps my cpu at 800mhz and just pushes it up when i open apps and whatnot...with this enabled my cpu temps are at about 32c idle. Also doing the AMD OverDrive stability test for about 15 mins the temp goes up to and stays at about 51-53c.
With that feature disabled running 3.0ghz all time the idle temps are 43-45c...after doing the AMD OverDrive stability test for 15 mintues the CPU temps reach and stay at 53c to 54c . Room temp on both tests is about 80F degrees.
I AM USING THE AMD COOLER THAT CAME WITH THE CPU.
Is there anything else you guys can recommend (Liquid cooling is not an option). And how "safe" are these temps running only 3.0ghz stock settings.
I don't know about that case but the dark knight is a good air cooler.
I agree with others, unless overclocking it sounds like the retail heatsink should be adequate.
I fit a thermalright ultra 120 in my antec 900 if you want to check that case against yours. And its about as big as they come. (for air coolers) even had enough room for a push-pull configuration.
Those temps are fine, especially for the stock cooler. I have a X4 940 too, at 3.0GHz, but undervolted to 1.25V (which many of them do easily, if not more. But if you do this, DON'T use CnQ, as it undervolts the lower speed as well causing crashes). I think mine tops out a hair under or over 50C, depending on ambient temps. If you really want to be certain, on AMD's website they have the specs for the chips. Max temp should be one of those specs.
------------------------------Phenom II X4 940 BE 3.0GHz - 1.25V > GA-MA790GP-DS4H > XFX ATI 4850 1GB > 4GB OCZ Platinum 1066MHz 5-5-5-15-2T > PCP&C 610W
Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz > GA-MA770T-UD3P > Sapphire ATI 4650 512MB DDR3 > 4GB OCZ Platinum 1600MHz@1066MHz > XP/Win7 Enter 64

Well I live in Arizona which during winter time is nice...70s during the day. Though if its like this on a day with 80F I wonder what my cpu will be doing when its 115f outside. I am looking at a new CPU cooler.
Those temps are normal.
I get the same temps for my CPU using Intel stock cooler.
There is no need to worry until it Starts idling at Higher 40's.
The idle temp doesn't matter in terms of overheating the cpu; the only temp that matters is the load temp. For a phenom II 940, the max temp is 62 C, which you seem to be well under. If you want to get a new fan, I recommend geting this one; cooling performance is similar if not better and its ~$10 cheaper.

Now that im looking at it both of those HSF are running 120mm fans. Which I think are huge, dont know how well that would fit into my Antec VSK-2000 case.
