Hello all! I have a asus crosshair III motherboard, AMD phenom 965 cpu and a 5870 video card being shipped to me shortly from newegg. I dont wanna use the stock heatsink for the 965 but i dont wanna spend a fortune either... would a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6835185093 fit on the asus crosshair III? Another forum suggested that it may be too large but they wernt sure. If not, could you please give me some suggestions thank you!!
It's hard to tell for sure. You might have to mount the fan in a less than idea location to get clearance from the RAM and the Northbridge heatsink.
If it doesnt fit the stock heat sink cools nearly as well as the Scythe MUGEN with a single fan.

Ah, thank you. If i applied artic silver 5 over the stock heastink would it most likely stay under 55-60 celcius? (thats when i start to really worry). Im using a coolermaster cosmos 1000 case if that makes a difference. Thank you for your quick reply!!
Doing Phoronix-test-suite FFTs my AMD_965 runs at 42-C. Stock HS/fan; it's the best stock HS I've ever seen! I'm running three fans in a full-tower case -- HDD=31-C : 9800_gtx+= 50-C.

Wow, these forums are great, very fast responses thank you!
I dont plan to overlock, not for a while anyway.. i just heared horror stories about some stock heatsinks and wanted to save myself the stress. If the stock heatsink really runs that cool then maybe i might just give it a shot.. i really dont wanna do trial and error tho (im really new to building and im not as quick and fluent at swapping parts as im sure you guys are ).
Basically it fits.. but the only spot a fan can be placed is near the back of the case to pull the air.. you cant put one in front to push because of the memory slots.
Ill check out that above mentioned heatsink as well xaira, is it conciderably smaller than the mugen?
Edit: i cant seem to find that heatsink on either newegg or ncix.com , ill keep looking though.

ull find that sink on amazon, another good one that will snap right on is the core contact freezer, its not al that smaller, but the heat sink area is smaller and its also taller to dodge any board or mem heatsinks, if u dont plan to oc tho, the stock cooler is pretty good, you can even undervolt the cpu for lower temps

I really like that core contact freezer you suggested, its on sale too! It only says in the description that its AM2, but im assuming it just hasnt been updated yet?
Ill probably order this one, thanks again everyone for your input.
