Dell Inspiron 531S won't reconzie 2nd internal 500 gb WD hard drive

Hello,
I purchased a WD 500GB internal hard drive. I followed the instructions but the computer won't reconize it. When i go to setup at the powerup screen (F2) it is not listed there either.

Let me add some more detail:
I followed the instructions from Dell concerning adding a 2nd hard drive. On my board I have 4 SATA slots. Dell said hook the hard drives to Sata 0 & Sata 1 and dvd drives to Sata 2 & Sata 3. I did that, the dvd drive was not show up under my computer nor did the new hard drive. The new hard drive showed up in F2 Setup. I thought this would be a simple plug and use> I could have an extra hard drive for photos & video, music.
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to install Windows 7 on it?
