A disk read error occurred laptop

Hello, I tried to load xp on a Vista pre loaded notebook, followed all the steps on a web site(http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/install-windows-xp-on-your-pre-installed-windows-vista-computer/), loaded xp, but upon restart get "disk read error occured"

Obviously you have errors on the HD. Can you boot safe mode & check for errors ?
