I have an adaptec 51245. I am running Win7 Pro 32-bit. I have 10 Hitachi 2TB drives (OF10452). Two are part of a RAID 1 connected to channel 0. The are two more connected to channel 0, four on channel 1 and two on channel 2. I want to run these 8 drives in a RAID 5. I can create the array without issue in the controller BIOS. However, the whole system becomes unresponsive after rebooting. It seems as though the controller is initialized correctly but then hangs when Windows would normally be booting. Recreating the array with any 7 of the 8 drives allows the system to start normally. I tested it with Build/Verify and Quick Init.

If I use the Adaptec storage manager software in windows, I can create the 8 member array and format it with NTFS. However, once I reboot, the system hangs. I've tried different array types as well. The end result is that 8 member drives causes a hang.

The 51245 is running the latest firmware.

I'd recommend contacting Adaptec about the issue directly.
