i have a friend willing to give me a qx9770 to replace my old and slow dual core. he recently upgraded, so i know its a good processor, however i dont think it will work on my motherboard, intel s975xbx2. he says it will just downgrade and run at what the motherboard supports, but i just want a second opinion. i know its faster than mine, but i dont want to ruin something free either.

will i be fine with the CU and not overclocking the motherboard/workstation board? i know it will not be as fast as it is meant to be, im fine with that. thanks for the reply.
