Hi all

I'm planning to build a budget HTPC next month, but have no clue on where to start from. Some key points are:
- I won't playback 1080p too often as my plasma is only capable of 720p. Most of the time I'll be watching DVDs, DVDRips or 720p .mkvs;
- It has to be energy efficient, cool and quiet;
- It's gonna be up most of the time as it's gonna serve files to my other computers (also P2Ping, but not very often);
- I'm not into games. At all.
- It has to be no more than 16cm tall (6.4");
- On CPUs, I certainly have a preference for Intel (but it's not mandatory);
- I haven't decided yet, but I'm almost sure I'll be running Win7 on it, so at least 2Gb RAM would be good;
- Another thing I'm willing to spend a little bit more on is an SSD for faster boot up times. I have a spare IDE 160Gb HD which could be added to the system (if there's some room) or plugged into it by using an USB enclosure I already have (I also have another 1TB USB HDD to be plugged into it);
- Budget: $400 +/- 20%

Any ideas?

Here is a setup you can check out...
I have come up with an AMD build because the onboard video for the AMD chips are best suited for your usage...The onboard of intel chips are very weak and might lag a bit...

CPU -
AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz

Mobo -
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GMT-UD2H AM3

RAM -
Crucial 4GB

CASE - This case would suit your requirements...
nMEDIAPC Silver Aluminum / Acrylic / Steel HTPC 5000S

PSU -
PC Power & Cooling Silencer PPCS370X 370W

Total - $342 without any HDDs...

If you really want to go with SSDs, then these would be a good options...But you might be able to install only the OS and some apps...
