Searching for a new card

So im in the market for a new video card as my 2900xt is starting to show its age. I have my eye on a nice new 4890 but my only fear is it will be bottlenecked by my Q6600 2.4ghz. Other concern is i only play at 1280 x1024. I don't want to rule out the fact that i might overclock my cpu and get a new monitor but thats not going to happen any time soon.
So what do you guys think?

4870 should be fine even the 4850/4770 would kill 1280x1024 or get the 4890 an clock to bout 3ghz the q6600 are great overclockers

But if the price difference between the 4870 and the 4890 was $20, would it be better to just go with the 4890

yeah then get the 4890 if are planning to overclock get an after market cpu cooler
