While I'm trying to figure out why my computer is broken, I'm going to buy a new computer. I'm on a budget of ~$400, and I cannot build my own right now. The computer will be used for basic office tasks. While looking at Fry's, I compiled a list of my possible choices. I can provide more info or links to each of these upon request. Please let me know which is the best and if the price is fair for a retail store. Also, is refurbished a good option?

Price.......Brand................CPU.............RAM
$330 Lenovo..................E2220............3GB
$330 HP Refurbished........5050e............4GB
$340 HP........................9150e............4GB
$350 HP Refurbished........5000+............3GB
$360 Acer......................X2 II 215........3GB
$360 Compaq.................7550+............3GB
$370 HP Refurbished........7750+............4GB
$390 Compaq.................X2 II 215........3GB
$400 Acer Aspire.............X4 9650........4GB
Eliminating poor choices will help too.

I'm not a fan of HP or Compaq- one too many bad experiences with their machines. May be some haven't, but that's me. Based upon the remainder of the list, I'd go with either the Lenovo or Acer. Lenovo (IBM) make some decent machines in my opinion and the CPU included isn't bad either- Pentium dual core I believe- zippy enough for office applications and similar applications.

X2 II 215? what cpu is that?

My main questions are how X4 9650 compares to the dual cores. How does 5000+, 7750+, and 215 compare? Is buying a refurbished computer a bad idea?

To Daggs: AMD Athlon II x2 215 (2.7Ghz)

I assume that none of these store bought computers are easily upgraded, so should I even worry about the chipset? What else should I look for in it? Right now the $360 Acer is looking good to me, but I'm still not sure if the X2 215 is better than 5000 or 7750. I also like the idea of the Acer with the Quad Core. Any comments are appreciated.
