lol..the barebones kit is useless.. amd processors arent as good as intel..

check this site out.. directcanada.com

also you can use ncix to pricematch directcanada

well ur budget is under 1000,

you can get the i7 920, with 4 or 6 gb memory
get the 64 bit O.S with free upgrade to windows 7
get a mobo around 150-250 dollars
for 1680x1050 just get 4870 and you can pretty much max out settings in games, or get 4890 depending on how your budget goes.
get like 500gb hard drive..
antec 900 case
your budget will do great.

i suggest you overclock your cpu and read some guides before so.
get a psu that is above 500 watts check out cosair psus

With windows it comes out to $1031, im sure you can find lower prices on some of the parts if you shop around and use price match on NCIX

overshocks, I couldn't find an i7 system for my budget.

hunter315 thanks, i'll look around and see if I can find some parts cheaper. What about that thing overshocks said about AMD not being as good as Intel? Would it matter in the long run?

The i7 is the best of the best out there right now, it helps that it uses triple channel ram, and has hyper threading giving it 4 physical and 4 logical cores, but most games out there only use 2 core right now, only FSX is capable of using more than 4. The bottlenecks for both processors are still well above the playable mark and going with an AMD build allows you a much better graphics card than an i7 does so on a budget AMD provides a better gaming computer, if you had 5 grand to spend i would definitely tell you to go with an i7 but you dont so the AMD is actually better for you.

Stop smoking crack, it rots your brain. To the OP, AMD is your best bang for the buck for a gaming PC. The i7 is faster than the X4 955, but for gaming, the gap narrows considerably. Especially on a budget, AMD is the way to go.

yes amd processors will be best for him for the budget, but it was just a suggestion like i said.

i like the system that hunter315 suggested above..but i would use ncix to pricematch directcanada or newegg, then the total will be cheaper
also you might want to consider antec 900 case

All the suggestions are appreciated, but should I wait until September (when the i5's come out) and see if the i7 920's price drops or should I just buy this now.

For a gaming rig, I seriously doubt you're going to be able to tell the difference between an AMD and Intel cpu. Unless you just have money to blow, go with AMD. Yes, I know with me username, I look like and AMD fanboi, but I'm not. I go with whatever is the best bang for the buck at the time. Right now, its AMD.

I personally favor the AMD processors, so I would probably go with hunter. I have the Antec 300, while it is among the smaller towers it should have more than enough room for what you would put in there. The one nice bonus that Antec gives the other towers are external knobs for the fan controls... not that you would use them often, but is a plus.
If you are remotely considering OC`ing, you would want to spend the extra dough on the Black Edition so you can pop up the multiplier... rather than just playing with the Vcore (which is much more likely to reduce the lifespan of your processor). I am completely happy with my 7750 BE, toms has several articles talking about the practical benefits of quad vs. dual cores... make sure you are buying what you need not just what is available.
I love my caviar HHD.
As far as mobos go, I really like the one AMDThunder and I have... so I would recommend the 790X-ud4p by gigabyte. If you decide to go with third party cooling, the Xigmatek 120 rifle is a bit tricky to install... and bulky, but like all Xigmatek stuff works like a champ!

Anyways. I hope you are satisfied with whatever you end up with what you build.

I never order from newegg.ca but I think you have to pay the taxe and custom on your parts and maybe some brokage fee... not sure but that's what I read on some forums.

Tigerdirect.ca is expensive compare to ncix, Ncix has also a price match...
Directcanada.com has free shipping on order over $300 and under 300lbs and their price are not so bad when they have the item.

Memory Express price matches as well and they have stores in Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. If you live near one then it'll save on shipping. As for a computer build Hunter made a good list. I just built a computer nearly identical to that one for my boss and it's a pretty solid computer.

Dude directcanada owns hardwarecanucks.
Just use ncix because of the pricematch thing like I said before. Directcanada has some cheaper prices so just match it. Customers always win

Also to OP, if you have the patience/time to wait for the i5 to come out, then prices will drop definitely, but by that time Directx11 cards will probably come out so everything will be different. Remember i5 sockets and i7 sockets are different 1156/1366
