Guys ive been racking my brain for days on what CPU to go for 1. i got rid of my xbox, wii, ps3 so this will replace them ill be using it for gaming left for dead 2 etc as well as DVD/ MEdia center oh and some odd access to my work webmail i am on a budget say £140 for motherboard and chip! here are my contenders athlon x4 620 athlon x2 250 athlon x3 435 phenom x4 620 (may be able to get thsi for £75) help please which is the best for all round

go for a quad for best all round performance and future proofing etc - dont bother with dual cores these days seriously

i agree with apache_lives, dual core will sooner or later will not be powerful enough. I would recommend a quad core although if you trying to save some money then go for the athlon II x3 435.

sweet guys just been offered a phenom x4 920 for £70 boxed so i think i may as well go for this, all these deals are driving me mad

Someone mentioned to me about the x2 550 black edition and unlocking the extra 2 cores? however this is not certain is that right?

Core unlocking is a gamble, you may or may not get a processor where the locked cores function.
