Im looking to build a new system around mid September for about $1600 Canadian. Any suggestions/ideas would be appreciated. Thanks. Also i plan on keeping the same motherboard/cpu/ram for the next 4 to 5 years. I probably upgrade video card/optical drives over that time period/

System use: Gaming, Video editing/encoding/ VB & C++ Coding/Watching movies & Tv shows.

Parts needed: CPU/RAM/Motherboard/Powersupply/ Cpu cooler. (Prefer intel Quad/Prefer ATI)(Prefer Modular power supply)

Overclocking: absolutely

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No, Dont plan on ever having more than one card, sucks too much power.

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1680x1050

The system ive been considering:

CPU: Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9650
Motherboard: Asus® Rampage Extreme
RAM: Corsair™ 4Gb PC3-12800 XMS3 DDR3
Video Card: Sapphire® Radeon™ HD 4890 Toxic
Power Supply: Thermaltake® TR2 RX-850 850W ATX
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9700 LED

Parts i plan on reusing from my current system:

LG light scribe dual layer burner IDE
Plextor PX-712A burner IDE
X-FI Fatalty Platinum
74Gb Raptor SATA 10,000
500gb Seagate SATA 7,200
250gb Seagate SATA 7,200

September? i5
If your not gonna crossfire/SLI you would be fine with a 650w PSU.

With your budget and what you need, I recommend going with a Core i7 over the Core2 Quad. It will last longer and perform better for your needs. Also, the Core i5 will beouTta by the time you plan to buy, so that will effect your price to performance ratio on your build...

+1 for Tecmo34 on Core i7. Below is Tom's Forum Link to a Core i7 Build for a Canadian, you should check it out.

oh also i want a system that doesnt use alot of power, dont know if that changes things. I want to keep my electric bill down as much as possible. and will the i5 use less power than the i7, cause a 135w to 140w seems a bit high for a cpu.
