Right. I'm going to buy an XFX GeFoce 8600 GT and i have an Asus P5GD1-FM mobo. I looked at it earlier and i'm wondering if the card will fit because the PCI-E port is right by a PCI port and the 8600 GT which i'm buying has a big fan. The card is 1.9 cm thick but i'm wondering if it won't fit or not because of the PCI port in the way.

Thanks again.

If the pci port has a card in it then it could be an issue. If not then there's nothing to worry about.
I wouldn't recommend an 8600 gt. It's old and simply not very good. An HD4670 or 9600gt is what you want to look for on the low end these days.

would this work on a 350w power supply? if so i will consider buying the 9600GT. And i don't already have a card in the pci slot.

I've just noticed that this card can't be powered just by the PCI-E slot and i don't hae the cables from my PSU to power it any oter way. So is there an Nvidia card better than an 8600 GT which can be powered by the PCI-E slot?

Both the 9600gt and 9800gt have new low power versions out that would most likely work with your PSU and don't require an extra power connector. Honestly I don't know if the one you linked is one however. Sometimes they have "low power" or "EE/eco edition" in the product name but often they do not. If it's not in the product name obviously the way to tell is whether or not they have a 6-pin power connector. It's easy to spot them on newegg because the site has good pics of all the cards but if you are in the UK I guess that doesn't help you.
It's definitely worth finding one though. Even the 9600gt is more than twice as powerful as an 8600gt.

The problem here is that they are out of my price range. I can't spend over £70 and i prefer XFX or Evga. If nobody can find a card better than the 8600 GT which doesn't need external power than i will go with the 8600 GT.

Dont go for the 8600 gt definatly not worth it now,

cards like 4670 , 9600gso are in the same price range and are A LOT better

i'd say go for a 4670 since i have a guess you are using a generic psu
