Few days ago there was a leak in the roof which dripped into an open plug socket my computer was connected to. The plug socket melted and set on fire. The computer seems fine except from the fact the power supply is incredibly loud now. So basically what could go wrong with a power supply to make it do that? Any ideas? I was thinking amybe the fan controller inside it had gone but i dont really know. Any help would be great as i would rather fix it myself before making a claim on insurance which has 100 pound excess.

Not a bad guess, but it could be something more serious. Do you think the fan is turning faster or just louder?

Don't try to fix it unless you are an engineer or have a lot of knowledge. Power supplies are quite dangerous for a novice to work on. You have not mentioned the brand so my guess is it's not a great PSU to start. Just stop using it before it damages your motherboard, and get a good one.
