My HP laptop won't take a charge when i pug it in, the little medal piece on the inside is really loose and im wondering if that is it? It used to pick up a charge for a moment or so but i would have to hold it in crazy positions and if i moved, it would lose the connection. any ideas??

Sounds like the PSU socket is broken.
I fix these pretty regularly.

Your local computer shop should be able to repair it for a few hours labour.
Or if you can solder you can get the power sockets for £10- £25
