Im thinking of using a Core i3 530 and an Intel H55TC motherboard as the basis for a home storage server.

Does anyone know if a PCIe x8 SATA controller can be installed (and work correctly ;)  in the x16 slot of the H55TC motherboard?

I know that this should work in theory but i have also read that some motherboards only support video cards in the x16 slot.

I guess no one has tried this on this particular board. But perhaps someone has tried on another Intel motherboard and can relate their experience?
