In the spirit of a similar thread I saw in the GPU forum I am going to give away my Rosewill 550w RP-2 PSU. I've recently upgraded to a Corsair model and don't need the Rosewill any more. It's only been used for a few months and is in perfect working order. I had it powering a Phenom II 720 OC'd to 3.5, 6 GB of DDR 2 ram, a GTS 250, a 260 GB HDD, 4 Antec case fans, and a 22x LG DVD/CD como drive. I know that Rosewill isn't the most reputable brand out there but I've never had an issue with this PSU.

While this isn't nearly as exciting as giving away a GPU, I hope it can find a good home for someone who might not be able to afford a new PSU but could use this one as an upgrade. If you are interested and could use this PSU, please list your system specs along with any information about why you need the PSU upgrade. I would like to select someone who could really use the upgrade and might be going through some financial/personal difficulties that would prevent them purchasing a computer upgrade at this time. I will only select someone who is in the continental US and I will pay for shipping costs. I will pick someone on Friday, November 13, 2009. Thanks for looking everyone!! :hello:

Ahh give it some time, I'm sure someone could use it! I saw your post from the GPU forum, maybe if you put a link to this thread in your post over there you will see some activity here.

P.S. thanks for offering this up, it's nice to see people donating!

Very generous of you, that power supply should be able to power 90% of the systems that I see here on Tom's, and Rosewill is very good quality, in my opinon. I've built two computers for friends, both have rosewills power supplies, both doing fine after 2 years.

I run a 600W Rosewill, and it is great. Has all the connectors, and power I need for now. I would totally recommend them, price/performance is perfect IMO.

Hey man. I would love to have it. I have a HP computer. But stuck a 8400gs in it and called it a gaming computer LOL. I would love to have it because it could open my possibilities of getting a new Graphics card. My parents hate spending money on the "darn video games" When I asked them to get a new case they said "Yeah, sure there is a cardboard box outside, and an old ceiling fan. I really like to game, and I barely get a glimpse of it.

Quad core Phenom 9150e
Hp brand 5gb ram
Bfg 8400gs
Stock no name brand 300w psu
640gb hard drive.

Comp specs:

E6750, Dual core 2.66
2GB DDR2 RAM
nVidia 8400
500 GB HD

It has some 300 watt PSU. I said in the GPU thread that I had a 500w one. I tested it out and... it gives out a high pitched whistling sound so... That's no good, I have the money for a new GPU albeit a pretty low end one. But I don't have the added money for a new PSU as I think the highest I could use is a 9400 which really won't get me where I want to.

I have a 24" monitor which came with the comp and an 8400 won't cut it for 1920x1200 resolution, nor will a 300w PSU. I would like to play some Fallout 3 and such but I don't have a job as I'm a full time student and can't drive yet so this is what I'm stuck with.

Thank you for this opportunity, good luck to everyone.

EDIT: Never mind "in the continental US" I am excluded.

2Ghz Athlon X2 3800+
Onboard GeForce 6150
1GB DDR2 RAM
1TB HD
No Power Supply

Thanks for doing this.

My computer has been dead for almost 2 years due to a dead 430w Thermaltake power supply. I would have fixed that problem a lot sooner, but I kept putting it off due to lack of money and it wasn't as urgent since my brother gave me his old Pentium 4 rig (w/ 1GB of RAM and a GeForce 7600GT).

The P4 rig has been serving me pretty well, but nowadays I'm growing increasingly tired of not being able to watch HD videos without a lot of choppiness or even SD Flash videos in full screen which led me here while doing research. I'm probably going to be getting a power supply regardless, but if I somehow end up winning it, I'll probably get a Radeon 4650 (or 4670 if I see a sale on that) using the cash I saved up for the power supply. As for the P4, I'll probably pass it down to my sister.

QUICK UPDATE:

Since there is some interest now, I'm gonna let this run for another week just to give more people a fair shot. I edited my first post to reflect the new selection date (November 13). If no one else responds, it will be between Mikahl and bangu.

Reply to sparky13

Is that fair to the people who applied within the guidelines of the original post? I mean--all this would do is cut their chances down..

Just a thought, either way--you're doing a great thing here and I do not mean to take away from that in any way!

Good luck guys, whoever gets this piece of equipment will be a lucky individual!!!

I do see your point and I hesitated to extend this another week but I also wanted this thread to be open to as many people as possible. I don't want this to be considered a 'contest' really, but more of a simple donation to someone who might not be able to afford a luxury item right now in thier life. :)

Good call, Sparky :)

Like I said, I meant no disrespect--and TBH I probably should have just PM'd that to you. Sorry, bro.

I have a 250w power supply in my case and I have been strangling it for about a year now. Playing Cod4 and such with it haha. Using a 2.4ghz quad core Intel core 2 and an ATI Radeon HD 3450. If you pick me thanks a bunch man. If not im sure ill find a way to get a new one! Peace

above is my clanmate from [uBp] and since hes new here, i'll clarrify him.....
basically this is what he has

Intel Quad Q6600 @2.4ghz
ATI HD3450
4gb DDR2
Generic 250W PSU (very low efficiency)

His problem is his extreme lagginess in games with a low ping... We concluded it was a combination of his crappy psu not giving enough juice to power his computer components (he has lag beyond my old intel celeron D 330 + nvidia 6200 pci)

He would be grateful for it as I am literally his computer adviser (im advising him to get what comp parts) And here is where i get my knowledge. Its good to know that people here will actually help out others such as giving away the free 8800 and the other person giving away his Phenom x4 9500!

If only someone gave away a pair of hd5870s xD

I'm a college student in my final year, with a max'd out credit card mostly from fast food because neither myself or my fiance have time to cook during the day. I bought a pc to play some games on the cheap a week or so ago, and during games the system shuts down, or with my new dual psu setup to try and fix this, it crashes :(

AMD Phenom II X3 720 (not black edition got screwed)
GA-MA790x-DS4
3GB DDR2 (one stick 2gb 800) (other 1gb 400)
ATI HD4850 512mb Crossfire

I have a 550w generic PSU that I got from my roommate, it's old though and I don't think it's viable anymore. I attached an old 350w Rosewill to the system but now the system randomly crashes or just the screen with hang. Also I can't seem to max out games I know I should be able to handle, for example the new COD I sometimes get 20-30 frames and it stutters.

Anyway if you see this post and have an idea I made my own topic with some more details here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] tting-game

Here some pics to confirm my situation.

When I was playing around on the GTS250, the most effective way I found to power it was adding another PSU to the outside of the case (seen as you don't have one, it's not a problem.)

Just get any old 300W power supply from any old PC case and link it to the graphics card only. Thus the 550W generic you have will power the system, while the 300W will power the GPU when the main PSU sees stress and the GPU needs juice.

If you want guides, I can give it to you. I took it out becuase I was getting annoyed haveing the PC case open all the time all over the table useing up my study space.

But it worked.

That's actually what I'm doing (well tried to do) For some reason when I have both video cards attached to the old 350w the pc runs, but when it goes into 3D it hangs.

If you look to the left of the monitor on the picture, you will see below the hard drive are two PSUs. The method I used was taking a cut down wire, and putting it in the green and black cord on the PSU.
