My power supply gets extremely hot when using graphics intensive applications. This is when I'm using my PC HD3870 card. This worsened when I added a new hard drive. It heats up already even if I'm not doing much gaming stuff. Recently one of my hard drives even got corrupted. I decided to stop using the graphics card for a while. The power supply isn't heating up anymore. Does this mean my power supply can't cope up with my graphics card? Or is it a problem of the graphics card itself?

It's probably the PSU. Put in a good 550 watt Corsair or Antec. (There are other good ones, but I recommend what I use. :) )

Yup, sounds like you have a very cheap PSU.
Look into a quality 450w+ Corsair, Seasonic, PCP&C, Enermax or Antec Earthwatts PSU.
