How to read a dead hard drive from a laptop

Hello,
I am helping a freind with his laptop his hdd has stop responding and the computer cannot find it haw can I get his data off of this drive?

I have done that and got the ding that it is connected but it will not spin up. I have bought the software you suggested and I am going to try that as well. I really hope I can save this guy a lot of money.
