Most reliable large HDD for backups

I have data backup for myself and my wife pretty much under control, but she really got upset recently when her SSD crashed and any number of re-installed programs did not behave exactly as they had before. Reconfiguring and resetting things doesn't bother me much, but drives her crazy. I plan to implement internal backup for everything on my wife's PC, as automated as possible. I will be using a single drive, which I'd like to hold three complete backups ("grandfather-father-son"), of her system drive (using <100GB now), plus the data backups (~200GB but likely to grow).

I'd like a recommendation on a SATA hard drive with the following criteria:
1. Must be reliable. If I remember correctly, 2TB drives have had some problems in that area compared to 1TB-1.5TB models. Is that [still] true? A 1TB drive is the smallest I'd want to use for this, but I'll get something bigger only if it is at least equally reliable.
2. Speed is a non-issue, as the backups will be scheduled for otherwise idle time.
3. Lowest power use consistent with reliability.

What drive(s) would you consider best for this application? Thanks.
