I have a Pentium D 820 and it makes some games lag real bad I can play COD4 MW but not nba 2k9. I have a overclocked nvidia 9400gt. Will I see a difference if i upgrade to a Amd Phenom be and run the 9400gt pci-2.0?

I want the Gigabyte MA785GM-US2H Motherboard w/ AMD Phenom II X2 550 Black Edition Dual Core Processor and yea I dont really need a uber great graphics card you now. I can get a 9500gt but im not bout to spend alot just to game. A directx 9 game shouldnt need a super charged video card. I think the intel Pentium d 820 sucks!

the 9400 is really really bad, i think you'll benefit more upgrading the video card to somethinbg like 9600 gt or 4770, but yeah that cpu does suck major *** too.

That 9400 GT is a stinker of a card when it comes to gaming... so although a CPU upgrade would help, it's not going to fix all of your problems. PC gaming ain't cheap :/

I have NEVER had a cpu that sucked like this lol. .I cant even run C&C red alert without lag. I had a nv6600gt with ddr3 and it lagged alot. So im thinking a new board and processor will hopefully work. IM not a hardcore gamer just game every now and then to pass time. And the 9 series of nvidia cards are pci-e 2.0 so maybe that will help also.

Well I have a family so im not dishing out alot of money. What about this? NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS 512MB DDR2 or the Galaxy - NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT 1GB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card. And if I have a pci-e running at 2.0 wont that be better? The 9500gt has ddr on it. This is the link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

what resolution are you playing at?

At one point NewEgg had a 9600 GSO for like $35 after rebate. That card obliterates 8400/9400. Shop around for a bargain and you should be able to get twice the performance out of a $50 card than what you're listing. Plenty of people pay $50 for a game... so hopefully you can come up with this.

ok so I decided to go with what you said and going to get this gso and overclock it http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N... but shouldnt i get with with ddr3? And thanks so much you guys have been a big help. Im a computer tech but when it comes to gaming power I suck!!

Dude definitely get a card with ddr3 on it, ddr2 will be slow as hell, that's why there's 1gb of it on that card. 512mb of ddr3 will outperform 1gb of dd3 easily. Sometimes more isn't always better and it's not like the 9600gso can take advantage of all that video memory.

if you can try to get the 9600gt here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... and it's already OC'ed for you and only $5 more. Good bang for the buck here.

or get the more expensive gigabyte, here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... it has a nice Zalman custom heatsink/fan here. Should keep the card nice and cool.

I would check into a 4670. It runs a little faster than the 9600 gso and actually cheaper. It would run cooler and takes less power also. Even though you have a 820 at least it's a dual core.
