My Current Build:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 965 @3.8v (1.325v)

RAM: Wintec DDR3 4gb x1

GPU: PowerColor HD 6950@ Core: 850 Memory: 1275

MB: Gigabyt GA-880GM-USB3(AM3+ Ready)

PSU: XFX Core Edition 850w

HD: 1TB Seagate

Question: Well, I would like to overclock my processor to 4ghz when i get this cooler http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4434989&Sku=C283-1202
I got it to 3.8ghz on stock cooler at 1.325v (it idles around 30c, max 57c in prime95, around 45-50c when gaming)
It seems stable, i ran it through prime95 for at least an hour and a half with no problems. Would it be possible to safely get it to 4ghz on stock voltage?
Thank You, (PS. I <3 this forum)

Well, I've read the default voltage for the Phenom ii 965 was 1.4v and that is what my BIOS automatically put it at, is that not correct?

That is the high end of what is stated. 0.825-1.40V You should be able to go into your BIOS and adjust the Vc for the CPU to achieve stability. The problem is if you have to go higher than 1.4V for stability and your CPU burns up because of that higher V AMD will not warrenty it.

Sorry! i made a typo when i put down the voltage, its actually 1.325, not 3.25!

No problem. :) I seen what you posted earlier and knew it was only a typo. :sol:

This LINK shows the CPU MFG specs and this LINK shows Toms efforts and results of OC'n that CPU.

Their Vc is just a bit higher than AMD recommends but you may have a better chance looking at your temps and Vc @ 3.8GHz.

After all that article was written over a year and a half ago.

Good luck to you and watch those temps! :sol:
