hi folks - I'm using Intel Quad 6600 CPU with geforce 8800 gt on antec 900 case, but even at idle my GPU temps are at 80 C (see pic below)

last year the case was very quiet, but now when I start a game, it sounds like a jet hangar, and I get scared and quit the game..

what could be the problem, and how could I solve it?

Check the HSF isn't clogged with dust and/or loose.

if thats idle, your cpu temps are a bit high also. Try running with the side of the case off for a while.

what/where is the HSF?? the fan above the CPU?? I've cleaned the dust yesterday, and the ic is as it shows now

idle, meaning torrent and rapid downloader and word working in background.... I have 2 front 120 mm fans in my antec case, and only 1 is working at min.
it also has a top 200 mm fan, which I have unplugged also. but it may not be related to the fans, because I plugged on all 3 fans, and set them (and the rear fan) to max. setting, but the scaring noise started nevertheless when I started the same game..

how can I drop temp of GPU??

none above the gpu.. i now tried to open the case, and quit all working programs, and the heat is going down very slowly. (fans working at max now)
still 77 C
will try the game now..

seems its related with my geforce 8800 GT
should I update its driver??

On your graphic card there is a fan, this fan is attached to a heatsink thus the acronym HSF.

there seems to be no fan on my graphic card... it looks just like this:

See that circular object at the far end?, that's the fan and if yours is not spinning then that's why your graphic card is attempting self combustion.

i checked it, and it turns. i even removed the black outer layer as suggested in its manual, but when I start the same game (with nothing else working) the temp climbs the steps again (I closed it when it was at 73 C again after a short time)... what could be the cause?? fan of geforce turns, but temp still rises

If the fan is spinning freely and the fan speed ramps up when you are gaming but has no impact on the temperature then you could try removing the HSF and redoing the thermal paste.
