Ok so I have a custom dual 12 box that I took out of my wifes car we sold. I have looked around and found out it is quite easy to use PC power supplies to power a car amp and people are doing this as I have looked it up. The amp is 1000 watt but will not try to max it to am going to wire up 2 power supplies 250 to 300 watt each in series prob 20 to 30 amps total should make it rumble a bit anyway :) . So question for the modders the wireing is going to be a holey mess and will have 2 powersupplies with all yellows tied together and all blacks tied together and green atached to black with switch. If you get the colors and theory behind the power supplies this is all making since so far. Real question is how to package all this and keep it somewhat cool... Not sure to attach it all to a wood pannel or hide it in a cheap PC case hmmm. Any other Ideas?

Sounds like a plan.

As for housing, since you're making this a big project I say paint the enclosures to match your speakerbox and replace the standard PSU fans with high speed LED fans.

To enclose the amps put them in a plexiglass shell with cold-cathode tubes running between them to look like they're sharing some mystical power. You could wire those directly into the PSU's.

In all the years I've hung around this section, this has to be the most unusual use of a computer power supply. I can't recall anyone ever asking about something like.

I've heard it can be done but the effort isn't worth it. It works more like a "because I could" project than "because it was a good idea" project.

That is exactly what it is I have 2 power supplies 250 and 300 going to combine then into 1 and I have done allot of the work last night breaking them down and connecting the two removing all the wires and bridging then to have all the amps on one big rail... :) Degree is electrical Eng. Job Network Eng. i figure i should use my skillz somewhere :) and when you have and amp and Nice daul 12 Audiobahn speakers that have been in your closet for 2 years well I need a way to put them to use. Ok so I can do the electrical work I was just asking for an idea of how to house it that would look good so i can use it in my media room for that extra Boom hehehe.

Well I finished up and it is working. I have tested it on A tec and the amp in question and it is working better that I thought it would really pushing upwords of 20 amps can't complain couldn't get an exact reading meter only mesures up to 10 amps but the tec was getting to below freezing so the current had to be pretty high. Fun project the funny part is I was explining the whole mess to a friend and he was like oh hey I have this amp you can have thats been laying around (Crown CE1000) 1000 whatt studio amp doh well I have a backup now :) The whole mess went into the box one of my speakers came in all you can see from the outside is a switch and a standard computer plug in. Well thanks all have a good one.
