Thinking about updating my work comp that I mostly use for 3ds. How much improvement will the i7 950 ( DDR3 1333MHz 6GB CL9-9-9) give over my current AMD X2 4600 ( 4 GB RAM) ?. I'm guessing quite alot, but is it in the range of cutting the render time for a high resolution render in half? Or even better?

Thank you

Ummmm yes i'd say you'd get a very good increase in speed but i cannot specifically tell u if it would double or more.

3ds max scales very well, even a Phenom would be able to render more than twice as fast as your Athlon X2 can. An I7 would be even better than the Phenom.

the i7 will eat through what you're used to with 3DS MAX and then you'll find yourself stretching what you can do with the system because you have so much more power available.

Save yourself some cash though and get a i7 920 and overclock it to match the 950 - you can even do that with the stock cooler but get a decent cooler and crank that 920 up!
