Download HWMonitor from CPU-ID (search on google for link).
Its free and shows you reported fan speeds. If no fan speeds display, there isn't much else you can do. If you're worried about temperatures, HWMonitor will show you those too.
You can download Prime95 and run a torture test if you want to see if it works correctly when the computer is under load.
