Greetings, I have a dell E521 with an AMD Athalon 62 X2 4000 dual core. It has 4 gigs of memory and a Geforce 8600gt. All was fine for a year and a half when it locked up on me. I turned it on and i could hear it run but nothing came up on the screen. I tried taking out the video card and using the onboard graphics with no luck. I did find that the front of the computer was caked in dust and lint. Could I have fried a componit? I didnt see or smell any sign of overheating.

do u hear the cpu fan running?

it might be the mobo but if u hear the cpu fan then it isn't

onboard gfx should work if the gfx card dies but i don't think ur 8600 is gone like i said it might be ur mobo

I can clearly see a large fan Inside the CPU box working. There is a large heatsink over the CPU so im not sure about the CPU fan.

well yeah the Heatsink is working

if u have another gfx card try that, if it still doesn't work then ur mobo is shot
