What resolution monitor do you use? Any parts you can take from another build like an optical drive? When are you planning to buy?

Don't have a monitor to use, I'm thinking about hooking it up to my TV. No, I don't have any parts, this is gonna be from scratch. I've done some looking around myself but i want to get a more experienced opinion. I wanna start buying pretty soon, i don't have to get it all at once, looking for the best deals really. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't go with Intel if you are looking to upgrade your processor in the future. socket 775 is basically dead. I would go with AMD in your situation.

AMD Phenom II 720 (Tri core) or 550 (Dual core). Both have the capability of unlocking their core so you would get a Quad Core.

Memory Don't buy dominators from Corsair

PSU- Might need a better one if you SLI or CF the more power hungry cards.

Video Card 4770, 4850, or 4870 if you're willing to spend more. I would get a 4890, but it's a bit out of your price range.

Case- up to you Make sure it has good airflow if you decide to overclock or use dual cards.

HDD- Any of the Caviar Blacks are good.

DVD Drive- any

$30 or so

This would cost about $650-750 and you would have a machine that is basically overkill for your resolution and an upgrade path for the future. If you are going to spend a bit more then some of my recommendations would change. Mainly in the motherboard section. If you do decide to overclock then you would need a different heatsink than the stock one.

CPU Heatsink
