Mobo question

im trying to build a comp online right now and i was planing on getting the EVGA GeForce GTX 280 as my vid card and i was wondering what motherboard would support it best, or which would be the best deal?
i don't wanna go ddr3 yet and i'll need whatever that vid card requires, like pci-e2
thanks

More about mobo question
  1. what processor do you want to install.

then we can decide what board you need
  2. He dont wanna go DDR3 so im guessing AM3 or 775, and go with a 5850 instead of 5870, relatively same performance for less money and power

Intel Core i7 860 Quad Core
  4. my friend told me not to go ddr3 cause he said it hasn't been tested as much or something. i don't really know much about that kinda thing so i just believe him. of course he could be wrong.
  5. He is wrong, DDR3 is the way of the future, DDR2 is dying
  6. allright then
so what kind of mobo would you recommend that could support the card and ddr3 in that case?
  7. and the processor too of course
  8. Any modern mobo will support the card and DDR3, wat processor you want? and whats your budget? Do you want intel or AMD?
  9. i was gonna get the Intel Core i7 860 Quad Core processor and i'm only really looking for like a mid-ranged motherboard (price wise), nothing too crazy

Theres a good midrange board with usb3 and sata3
Or if CF/sli is important to you, go with this

if you want to for that you have no option but to go for tripple channel memory - ddr 3.

ddr 3 is as good as reliability of ddr 2 its just that some motherboards dont work well with it ( msi x58 pro -e if you have larger than 6gb for example ).

the i860 is a good chip, AM3 will go to 6 core soon as i assume socket 1156 will go to but it may need a new chipset...

    1336 will be core upgradable.

I personally would go for a 955 on a AM3 platform with ddr3 and wait for the 6 core chip to come out, that way youve got upgradability..
