Forum CPU & Components : CPUs Giving away a Phenom x4 9500 *CONTEST OVER*

Word :    Username :

Inspired by: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] -announced

I have a few rules for this:

1. You have to have an old CPU you're upgrading from, obviously.
2. Your motherboard has to support it.
3. If you do a bios update and it F***S up your computer, don't blame me lol.
4. Must be willing to pay postage fees - I live in Canada so it might be around $15 or so to US (I'll get an exact quote for the winner).
5. Post here with your computer specs (including motherboard make and model), and why you want the processor.

Please be honest with your computer specs, and I will choose the winner based on who I think needs it most. If there is more than one person who needs it the most, then I'll do a random drawing from a hat.

Also, I lost the box for the processor a long time ago and along with it I lost the HSF. However I recently upgraded to a PII x3 710, and I have the box and HSF that came with that, so I'll be shipping it in that box with the x3's unused HSF.

Edit: I suppose I should put an ending date too lol... I'll give it a week for entries, so wednesday november 11, 2009 at midnight is the deadline.

Nice, first annisman gives a gpu away, now you're giving a quad away. This community rocks haha.

Anyways, how old is old for the cpu?

My specs are as follows

Athlon X2 4200+
ASRock A780GXE Motherboard
4GB DDR2 Patriot RAM
Nvidia 7600GS
Rosewill 630w PSU.

I would love to have it because this was my first build, started in January. Building my own computer has always been one of my greatest desires. Unfortunately, I've never been able to swap out my parts for better things due to lack of funds. I'm still a jobless high school student, can't find any work. So my build had to be left right at that, which is essentially where I started. With college not too far off at this point, it doesnt look like I'll ever get a chance to finish this. I would be extremely grateful for just being able to enter the contest.

Anything that performs worse than the 9500 will be considered, but the person needing it the most is going to get it.

I can imagine a situation where if a person had a low end dual core but a midrange GPU, they might benefit greatly from the upgrade, as opposed to someone with a high end dual core and a low end GPU. See where I'm goin?

So yeah, you're definitely being considered xelios.

Athlon 3400+ 2.0 ghz (OC causes random restarts), Radeon x700, 1GB DDR466 RAM.

My dad'd be willing to buy another motherboard. His main concern right now is keeping any upgrades I ask for under $80, and at that rate I can only get a Sempron processor.

You deserve it more than I do since I have my 3500+ at 2.6ghz how ever I already have the board and cooler.

Athlon 3000+, but I am going to be buying a new MB/memory/graphics.

I purchased Fallout3, when it came out, installed it and found out just how (lame) out of date my CPU/MB/graphics card is.

This is my Mobo

I see there are older ones than mine here, but no harm in posting hey.

Why would i like your CPU?

Your CPU > mine. Good enough reason to want it rite? And i actually do want a new one aswell.

Hi I have a e6400 that is overclocked to 3.4ghz at 1.37v but how ever it is not enough for dual threaded apps and can barely push my two 9800s in sli. It sad really when I run fraps and watch the fps just bottom faster than the USD when running sli compared to running in single mode. So does any one have any ideas for a quad that won't max out my crappy ea650 while I run my 9800gs, three hdd, crap loads of fans, and my ridiculously cheap xfx 780i. Cooler zalman cnps7000a-cu.

Hi,

My computer is as follows
- Athlon X2 4600
- Gigabyte GA-M61P-S3
- NVidia GeForce 9600GT
- 430W Thermaltake PSU
- 2GB DDR2 800

A better processor would be great because I do some video editing as well as gaming and the rendering takes forever.

Reply to 4strings

Just thought id bump this so others get a chance to see it.

Reply to JTBomb007

I am not interested in the CPU (I have 2 more powerful systems) but want to point out that the Phenom 9500 was used in a low cost build of Tom's Hardware Marathon in March of 2008.So you can look at the benchmarks.

You'd need new RAM as well as Phenoms take DDR2 and you have DDR. I would just upgrade the entire system when you have money as you're basically wasting money in upgrading an old 939 system with something faster. You can't buy DDR RAM and socket 939 X2s for giveaway prices yet on eBay, so I'd just get an entirely new system. I'm in the same boat as I am also on Socket 939 with an X2 4200+ and 4 GB of DDR400. I'm just riding it out until I get finally done with school and get a paycheck.

Got a sempron LE1250 Am2 on an MSI board with Nforce 570-sli chipset.
2x512mb + Radeon X1650 with 2x500 gigs.

Just kidding that's just one of my 5 computers :S
The guetto linux server. Tho the 9500 would help as I run Xen to run different VM's + the sempron doesn't do virtualisation required if I want an vm of a windows server.

Best sent to anyone who has an am2 single core. I would think the AthlonX2's perform just fine next to the quad compared to a single core.

I'd actually like to pull myself out of the competition. Seems people here need it much more than I do, and from talking to my brother, I might snag a P2 940 as an early Christmas gift. So good luck to you all.

Good luck to those who need it more than I. If they got a compatible board while having a sempron they need it unlike those with those X2 cpus. I'll limp on my 3500+ (am2 35w) for a few more months till I get a job and buy a nice 45nm.

lol... wont fit
The 9500 is for am2, this board is unfortunately 2 generations behind and considering it's a sis chipset, it was one of those CPU+Mobo combos (I have one tho sempron3000)

The best CPU that can go on your system is an Athlon64-3700 with 1mb l2 cash but those are rare and pointlessly expensive.
Your cpu is still part of the kings of single cores.

Unfortunately upgrade wise everything must change so milking the pc to then get a new one and have a great secondary is the best bet.

Yeah, we might get a 780G, or something along those lines. I was surprised that the phenom has a TDP of 95W; that means more boards will support it.

Don't know how to really prove anything with pics, and I can't shut down at the moment to disassemble anything.

Card is readon x700, last pic is to show the short brown slot, which is only included with older mobo's.
Second card is an (unused) wireless adapter.

No need to disassemble anything, those pics are fine, now if everyone would do the same as you we would have at least some proof.

Note to people reading:

If you have a part lying around that someone else could put to good use, but you'll likely never use your self: Do what Annisman and I did, and give it away. At worst, it'll cost you a little bit of your time and maybe some bus fare (or gas) to get to the post office.

Nearly all of us have had to deal with crap machines in the past, and even something as old as a Pentium D or an nVidia 6600GT could make someones life all that much easier :)
