Hello,
I recently picked up a virus which fortunately has now gone after anti virus and spybot removal. However, it seems to have cleared my hard disc.I have managed to get some stuff back by using repair section on some of them in add/remove.But there is still a lot missing, any ideas please? I'm running XP with service pack 3 on a 4 yr old Toshiba Equium L100.

It may not be fixable. If it looks like it's a big pain to fix you should restore Windows and applications.

If you decide to do this you need to plan carefully:

0. Create an IMAGE BACKUP of your C-Drive (Windows) to removable or secondary drive
1. ensure you have the Windows discs, purchased software etc.
2. backup e-mail, data, internet favorites etc. to removable drive or secondary hard drive
3. Reinstall Windows
4. Install the main motherboard chipset driver (see website)
5. Install other motherboard drivers, video drivers etc
6. Install Microsoft updates
7. Install other programs
8. Import and copy data that you backed up
9. Install Antivirus (Avast, Spybot S&D)
10. Create an IMAGE BACKUP (i.e. Acronis True Image. If you have a WD drive there's a free version). Backup should be on a removable or secondary drive.
