I have plugged both the analog and DVI-D cables into the Sony VGC-RA820G computer but when I hit the input button on the front of the monitor it indicates there is no input to the DVI-D line. Do I need to set the computer to read both inputs and if so how do I do that?

Only connect one input, and make sure you've also chosen the right source.
