This is my first time making a build so let me know what you think. I will not be staying with Intel and Nvidia so keep with that. Give me ideas and thoughts. THANKS!
I am a little confused by your statement "I will not be staying with Intel and Nvidia so keep with that." Does this mean wouldn't mind AMD or ATI because the tone of your post suggests the opposite... Anyways, definitely get the 275 and I would recommend getting more than just a single 80mm fan. Also are you aware that your case form factor is Mini-Itx and your motherboard is ATX and therefore won't fit?
sorry. i was going to say "i won't be going amd or ati" but forgot to take out the not on this statement LOL! and wow i didn't know what case to get. Didn't think it would matter. shows u how much i know about this. why those particular ones? because mine isn't stable enough? i know that WD is a good brand
Yes WD is a good brand but also your HDD is 5900 RPM and received poor reviews. The principal reason is the low RPMs... Also maybe repost using this format to get more help: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] ild-advice Finally, we generally recommend an AMD AM3 build over a end of life 775.

Especially on that budget. You are out of the range of an i7, and not low enough that you should go with a quad. The intel quads are lower clocked than the dual cores and perform worse in many games and the core 2 duos, where as the AMD quads are clocked higher and the latest generation of dual and triple cores are based off the same piece of silicon as their flagship quad.
Get the GTX275 over the GTX280, it is faster, runs cooler, and draws less power. You also dont want an IDE DVD burner, modern motherboards only support 2 IDE devices and the cables are shorter than they once were, get a SATA drive for the same price.

You should probably avoid the 8xxx series cpus....for just $60 more you could get the q9550 w/that same MB. It will overclock much higher (will usually hit 4.0) and blows away the AMD Phenom II and the C2D cpus clock for clock...although as others have pointed out the 775 is coming to an end. But this small $60 upgrade would get you a much longer life from this build.
Here's the new list as of now. I know there's some kind of format, but the link didn't work. I've got a $1300 budget now and there's 9 customer choice awards in this one
Sony Optiarc Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe LightScribe Support

In my opinion that is way to much to pay for a socket 775 system. If you absolutely won't go with AMD then the changes I would make to your system would include the PSU and case
I agree with the AMD thing too. Though i have an e8400 myself, I bought it when it was basically brand new, and since the new stuff from amd in this price range, buying the 775 socket which will lose support basically this year is probably not a great idea.
Other than that everything looks in order. Agree with the power supply change suggested by jbakerlent as well. I'm not really a big fan of the antec 300, but at that price, it really cant be beat.
For that price you could get an i7 w/ 2x 4870s....price below does not include monitor

i tend to agree with the above posters, go i7 if you're not interested in AMD, and if you prefer nvidia over ATI then the video card you have selected is a good choice.
+1 for hunter's choice of PSU, corsair is much better than the one you picked, and 950W is a ton of overkill anyway. if you're going to wind up with SLI down the road, consider the 850TX instead of the 750TX for an extra $10 but stick with corsair
make sure your memory goes with your cpu/mobo, if you do go with i7 you'll likely need DDR3 rather than DDR2. this will add a few dollars (OCZ Gold is $115 for 3x2GB, a very good choice) but will be worth it in the long run
Drop the 2 4870s for a single 4890, it should provide enough graphics horsepower for you, and will drop you below 1000. Also make sure you keep an eye out for a nice combo or two, you can drop the price alot if you find a good combo.
yeah that's about it, to avoid getting an EOL system, you're going to spend >$1000 or you've gotta get AMD. I'm spending about $1000 myself to get a pretty solid i7 setup but that does not include monitor, case or OS, which'll add a few hundred no matter how cheap your case and monitor are.
Also to reiterate something else from above, i've heard negative things about the GTX 280 as well, stick with 275 or 285, or get two GTX 260 Core 216s and go SLI, that'll get you more power even than a single 285 if you pick the right 260's.
With the build I posted you can drop one 4870..that will put you right @$1000. If you have a microcenter near you, the i7 can be found there for $200, that will save you another $80. If you have anything you can use from an old build...case, hdds, DVD drives, ect you can save some there, also.
