Breadboarding Attempt, Don't know what to do next!

Forum Systems : Homebuilt Breadboarding Attempt, Don't know what to do next!

Ok, so i put everything together and when i went to boot, ABSOLUTELY nothing happened (no fans started, etc.)

So i decided to try breadboarding.

My components:
Core i7 920
EVGA E758 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813188039 (has mobo speaker)

First, i plugged in only the cpu, hsf, 24 pin + 8 pin, and psu. When i switch the psu on, the standby blue light comes up (next to 24).

Then, i try pressing the bios power/cmos/reset buttons on the lower left hand side of the mobo and NOTHING happens again... no fans spin, no beeps

Does this mean my mobo/cpu/psu is dead?

thanks

What are the complete system specs, including PSU?

CPU fan is plugged in right? Is anything shorting? Can you try another power supply and see if you get a different result.

Have you tried starting the system by shorting the 2 pins that the power switch connects to instead of using the onboard power switch? It's a long shot, but maybe the onboard switch isn't working correctly.

Sounds like a mobo DOA or PSU DOA

Try unplugging everything and plugging it all back in just to check connections.

Yep CPU Fan is plugged in. I doubt anything is shorting but i don't really know what to look for (its not burning and its sitting on wood). I don't have another PSU since this is my first newer computer (have been using laptops). I feel the PSU is ok since it powers up the blue led, but that might be presuming too much.

LEDs require very little power, and your PSU has multiple rails, if some of them are bad but the one that powers the LED is working then the LED will light up but nothing else will function.

well, i've done that in a way when i had my pc button connected, the bare bones still didn't whirl.

Thanks All, i guess i have a DOA Mobo or PSU.

Is there anyway to test a PSU with just a voltmeter? My parents suggested using one, but i'm skeptical.
or am i just better of RMA'ing both

Plug in one of the molex connectors that goes to a case fan, go in from the back of the connector with the DMM probes so you dont damage the connector, one of those lines running to the fan should be the 12 volt, most things are power off of that so measure the voltage there, it should be pretty close to 12 volts, if its not that may be why the board isnt powering up.
